goodbye and good luck
NAOMI FREARS
Upstairs in the School Room, there is a sunny space with a stage at one end. There are fantastic photographs of pantomimes and plays going back decades. The building has gone through a dynamic change, so we said goodbye to the stage - and all the glorious activity that has taken place there - by staging a series of ‘goodbyes’.
Artist Naomi Frears is making a new film marking the transition from the stage as it was (Goodbye) to what it will be (Good Luck). These goodbyes are gathered from local people of different generations. There are personal goodbyes, a new play, and cover versions of goodbye songs performed by a solo artist and local bands.
Filming was completed in 2024, prior to the building being redeveloped and the stage being removed. The work is now in the editing phase.
Goodbye & Good Luck is made possible with funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. This project is also part-funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
