Sharon’s link to the Penryn Methodist Church goes back over 50 years; she first attended when she was 10 years old. As a teenager, she helped out with various groups at the School Room and attended St John's Ambulance Brigade as a cadet. Later, she became a leader for the Sunday School, the Holiday Club, ‘Messy Church’ and a group for teenagers called the ‘Cool Christian Cats’.

“A poignant memory to me is just before the end (of the session), we used to do a prayer… we used to do beautiful ones where we’d sit them in a circle and light candles and let them watch the flames flickering and say ‘we can't see the presence of God and you can't see the air that's making that flame flicker, but you know it's there.’”
