ALEX CRAIG

Teacher, Leadership in Education & Learning

Suggested by Molly Craig

Molly writes, “Alex Craig is the headteacher at Weeth Community Primary School in Cambourne. She creates a safe space for children to access the education system in Cornwall and consistently puts the children’s needs first by being an advocate and a strong leader. I believe she takes a creative approach to education whilst managing to effectively follow the system we currently have in place.

Having begun her teaching journey in the arts, she has worked her way through the education system being continuously recognised for her ability to work with children’s challenging behaviours in a children-centred way. She recognises individual talents and skills and has shown us that there is art, music and beauty in even the darkest of places. Alex has become a natural leader who enables her team to be creative in their teaching by recognising the importance of everyone’s uniqueness.

I believe Alex draws a huge amount of strength from her creative roots particularly in the uphill battle she finds herself in with the current state of the education system.

Alex came to Cornwall to have children and begin her teaching career around 25 years ago. She is a single mum to four children and became a head teacher on her own with no breaks. Alex is fully embedded in Cornish culture and heritage and can be found leading choirs at Trevithick Day or Samba Bands at Merdoch Day.
