Dance, Community & Voluntary Action

Suggested by Jayne Walker and Theresa Turner

Jayne says, “Alice runs Studio 4 Dance in St Austell: a space where young people can grow and develop self confidence through dance, Studio 4 provides opportunities that have a positive impact on young people’s lives. Two years ago, Alice opened Studio 4 Studios Community Space which provides further facilities for the local community including stay and play activities and local events. Alice works in partnership with St Austell college to deliver a performing arts BTEC and the space is used as a training venue also.

At a young age Alice helped and supported others, receiving the Lady Diana award for her voluntary dance work in schools at age 15. At 16 she worked with local youth projects in Torpoint and Par offering dance to 100’s of young people. At 17 Alice worked on dance projects with Point Europa and with European funding brought together over 70 dancers for the Feet First project. This led on to a wonderful partnership with Austria and opening up opportunities for young people from Cornwall to visit Austria for beautiful dance projects.

Alice completed a degree in London in dance at the age of 21 and returned to Cornwall to ensure her passion was passed on to young people here and making dance accessible for all.

Alice now has 2 children of her own and continues to work hard together with local community and local schools. Hundreds of young people and adults have benefited from Studio 4 and Alice now is able to provide job and volunteering opportunities and many young people have gone on to study dance at university.”

Teresa comments. “Alice has been an amazing role model for the children of St Austell and provides a space for the children to come together and dance. She is very important to me as she has helped children, mine included to become the best versions of themselves.”
