Stacey says, “Andrea has been involved with sport in Cornwall, mainly Netball, from her youth.
As a sports teacher at Cape Cornwall Secondary School in St Just, she taught and played netball at local clubs and for the county, training girls and women to a high standard, all voluntarily.
At 72, following knee surgery and other big life changes, she is still teaching at Bayside Netball club in Penzance, giving up several nights of her week to keep her commitment to a bunch of women who want to play netball, supporting them to do something that is more than just a hobby to them.
Andrea is important to me because without her I wouldn’t have been able to fulfil my return to sport after having a family. Other local clubs didn’t facilitate ladies of all abilities. I’ve grown very strong friendships through playing again, and together we are a big support network for all over 18s who attend. Making netball available as a hobby to older women is a massive lifeline to so many of the ladies. Andrea is a star and an inspiration.
Andrea is the most humble of ladies. She’s not one that requires praise but whole heartedly deserves it. She’s changed so many lives over all these years - and we all love her!”
