Amelia says,
“Ann started “Ann’s Pasties”, now a business with a world wide reputation, from her garage on the Lizaard where she was able to crimp and keep one eye on the family. Using her mother’s recipe and with a focus on using Cornish produce, Ann has created a company that employs many people and is an important part of the Cornish economy. She is determined to keep Cornish history and traditions alive, holds strong beliefs and stands up for what she believes is right.

Ann is a great role model for young women starting a business. With her ethos of using ingredients from the land, she has pioneered sustainable practices and reduced the food miles of her products.  She has reminded me never to succumb to peer pressure and to be confident in my own ambitions.

Wenna adds, “Ann has championed the Cornish pasty on our peninsula and well beyond! She continues to grow her successful business and is a total legend with a wealth of knowledge of local history!  Ann is kind and her fleet of crimpers love to work for her!  She always makes time to talk about her passions.”

From Ann’s Pasties website:
“I am of the Gilbert family from Gunwalloe.
Living & growing up at Fishing Cove, Gunwalloe was a magical time for my brothers, cousins and me. Watching the fishing boats launched on summer evenings and having a free run of the beaches & cliff tops was part of our care free existence. I can remember snooping around the village smelling out pasty-day at different relatives houses. I could tell the difference between each of my aunt’s and my mother’s and grandmother’s pasty, even though all used the same ingredients.”
