John says,
“Frances Wall is a Professor of Applied Mineralogy and former Head at the Camborne School of Mines (CSM) at the University of Exeter.

She arrived in Cornwall as associate professor at CSM in 2007, and has been a stout advocate for the school ever since, growing its reputation globally, particularly in the fields of critical minerals, the circular economy and sustainability, and responsible mining. In 2008 she became Head of the school, its first woman director in history. She has become heavily involved in Cornish institutions, becoming a very active President of Royal Geological Society of Cornwall  from 2020, and advising the Royal Cornwall Museum on its re-display of the mineral collection. As a former colleague I found her very supportive and easy to work with.

In 2016 Frances was listed in 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining and in 2019 she received the William Smith Medal of Geological Society of London. She has engaged in much face to face interaction with people about science, inspiring through teaching at school and university levels, and via radio and TV, publishing nationally and internationally, and in her advisory roles.

Frances is just "Frances" to everyone, from new students in year 1 to researchers, lecturers and professors at CSM. Even with all these accolades there is much I have missed out!”
