GEORGE TREGENZA
Arts, Recycling, Environment
Suggested by Ted Tregenza, Olivia Rodden and Sam Bryant
Ted says, "George has brought learning and art activities to those who could not otherwise access them through her work in community for over 20 years. Passionate, genuine, kind and strong, George is a protector of the environment and is loved and respected by everyone who knows her. Since leaving my abusive father, George has helped others and taught them so much about art and the environment.
George has multiple sclerosis, and is a survivor of domestic abuse, but she doesn't let that hold her back. She is currently completing a Fine Art MA at Falmouth Uni, has run two festivals in Redruth called "Bangers and Mash" and is a regular artist in residence at Glastonbury Festival.
Olivia, "George founded and ran Home Comforts, a furniture recycling project in Pool and has worked alongside children and adults inspiring them to find their own innate creativity. George supported me and others as an advocate for ending violence against women and girls. George is a genuinely beautiful person who cares deeply about others."
Sam says, "George was at the forefront of recycling and reuse in Cornwall in the early 2000s, was nominated for Cornwall Woman of Achievement, 2007, represented the UK in the international green awards 2012 and won the Future Friendly award for her ecologic project in Pool. She also ran Junior Park Wardens encouraging children to take care of the environment.
George is an example of strength and beauty in adversity, struggling with abuse and disability and has given many of us courage. George really deserves recognition for being a fantastic Cornish woman.”
