She is a beloved figure in Cornwall’s breastfeeding community, celebrated for her gentle guidance and dedication.
Helen also played a key role in helping Cornwall achieve UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative status, championing better care for mothers and babies across the county making a lasting impact on her community and strengthening Cornwall's commitment to maternal and infant health.
Helen Shanahan was a lifeline for me after a traumatic first birth, when breastfeeding felt impossible. Her unwavering support through many nights made all the difference, guiding me through every challenge with patience and understanding. Helen’s calm reassurance and expertise not only enabled me to breastfeed my sons but also helped me regain confidence in myself as a new mother.

Helen was nominated for a British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to midwifery in Cornwall in 2020.”
