HELEN TIPLADY
Theatre Arts
Suggested by Katie Bunnell, Elaine Bishop and Zoe Waters
Helen lives and works in Cornwall. She is deputy creative director at Hall for Cornwall, Truro. Helen leads the Get Creative team developing the outreach, education and youth theatre/dance programme strategies and overseeing core participatory partnerships such as the RSC Associate Schools Programme.
Katie says “The success of Hall for Cornwall Youth Theatre is intrinsically linked to Helen’s passion, hard work and most importantly her inspired approach to theatre arts and youth work. In 2019 the Hall for Cornwall Youth Theatre’s brilliant ensemble production of “The Sad Club”, a play written specifically for and about 16-25 year olds was selected from 100’s of others to close the National Theatre’s Connections Festival in London.
Helen is important to me because she and the Hall for Cornwall Youth Theatre team played a significant role in the well being of my son who found school a hard place to be. Argumentative, creative and loud he was constantly in trouble. Youth Theatre’s approach to teaching and learning drama, choreography and physical theatre enabled him to flourish and recognise his strengths. A clear case of Art education making a significant contribution to his development into a happy and well balanced young man. Invaluable!”
