Annie says, “Kyla is one of Cornwall’s most talented and dedicated theatre directors. Having studied at The Hub in St Austell, she has sustained a career as an actor, director and theatre maker in Cornwall for over 20 years, working with Miracle, Kneehigh and Wildworks and creating her own company called Trifle Gathering.

Recent achievements in Cornwall include directing “Everyman” for Miracle, “Kneebone Cadillac” for Wildworks, Trifle projects, “Homegrown” for the learning-disabled community and “Rant Club” with Wild Young Mothers. Out of county Kyla recently co-directed The Virtuous Circle, part of BBC Proms at Bristol Beacon, in which the Paraorchestra perform in perfect synchronicity, playing Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 on the move with dancers in an array of choreographic formations. The performance explores the orchestra as the ultimate embodiment of teamwork and recasts the classical concert as an immersive experience, dissolving the barrier between audience and performers.

Kyla is talented, dedicated and determined to make excellent theatre for people in Cornwall. Her energy, drive and positivity is relentless. The breadth of her experience in Cornwall’s theatre sector enables her to bring the best of Cornish theatre together in her own work, creating a legacy for the next generation. Her work is exciting, funny, accessible, high energy and a little bit wonky.

Kyla grew up in Callington, studied in St Austell and has lived in Penryn for 15 years. She truly embraces being part of the Penryn community and probably knows everyone who lives there!  Kyla’s achievements deserve to be acknowledged and celebrated.“
