Religion, Community

Suggested by Rev Jon Northey

Jon writes,
“Rev Laura Bushell Hawke is Oversight Minister for: The Benefice of Saltash (St Nicholas & St Faith and St Stephen's by Saltash) The Benefice of Landrake with St Erney & Botus Fleming and the Parish of Landulph.
Laura volunteers with the Air cadets providing First Aid and Health & Safety training and trained locally to become the oversight minister for the group of churches around Saltash. This is a hugely important and demanding role.

In her capacity as a minister, she works across the whole of society. She has started a local baby loss service, reaching out to people in their grief, visits local schools and supports people throughout their lives as they marry grow old, are dying and bereaved.

Laura has taken on a massive responsibility and like other women in male dominated sectors of employment, has had to deal gracefully and patiently with those in opposition.

Laura is a great example to others locally showing how someone who is willing to work, study and apply herself can make the community around her a better place.

Laura is of Cornish descent and lived here the majority of her life. She is really committed to staying and helping her community.
