Community and Voluntary Action

1940 -

Suggested by Rachel McKenna

Rachel says;
”Maire has given tireless dedication to Centenary Methodist Church. She has been a driving force in many activities and outreach within the church and local community.
She is a founder member of The Camborne Music Festival, Centenary drama group, the refurbishment of the church building into the Centenary centre. She was heavily involved in the start of the Camborne food bank and Thursday lunches for the elderly.
She was awarded by Camborne town council for her voluntary work and pastoral care at Centenary Methodist Church. Organiser of the flower festival and flower club. As well as endless fund raising to keep the church.

She is my mother. She is a role model and mother figure to many people especially those who have lost their own mother or who haven’t had a good relationship with their mum.

She lives her life by Christian values of kindness, understanding and love. She is wise, the voice of reason, practical and encouraging. She survived sepsis and Guillan Barre syndrome in 2019 and lost all use in her body. Through faith prayer and determination she has made almost a full recovery. Amazing!

Lived all her adult life in Camborne. She is a wonderful person and loved by all. Awarded by the town council for her voluntary work.

She and my father were presented to the late Queen and Prince Phillip when my late father gave them a picture of Camborne library. She met Prince Charles when he visited the Rainbow House project for vulnerable women and children that she was involved in setting up at Centenary.”
