Carolyn says;

“Mercedes Kemp influenced so many artists, art students, and colleagues during her 30-year career teaching as a Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at Falmouth University.

And as founding member of WildWorks Theatre Company she has developed storylines and text for site specific pieces in Malta, Cyprus, France, Belgium, the Occupied Territories of Palestine, Tunisia, Sicily, Colombia. She is based in West Cornwall and has been a leader in Cornish landscape site-specific theatre, putting Cornwall on the national and international map of performance-based practice.

Mercedes forged ahead in the area of political theatre and innovative pedagogy at the Falmouth School of Art. Many of her former students have gone on to become teachers and artists in Cornwall. Mercedes is fearless and progressive, courageous in her politics and art practice, creating an impact on the audiences who participate in her radical art pedagogy.

A native of southern Spain, Mercedes has been based in Cornwall for most of her career and her work negotiates Cornish landscape, social history, and art history.”
