Natalie writes,
“Despite being paralysed from the neck down and on a ventilator since having an accident as a toddler, Sarah has grown to be an independent and inspirational woman. She is a very talented paint-by-mouth artist and sells her artwork on the internet and across Cornwall in local shops and craft fairs.
Her work covers a range of subjects including flora, fauna, landscapes and seasonal themes. Sarah has excelled in her academic studies as well having obtained a BSc in Health and Social care, and trained as councillor. She now coaches businesses to be more accessible and helps those with disabilities fulfil their dreams and potential. She is a public speaker and disabilities activist and applies her knowledge in volunteering opportunities.
I met Sarah when she first came home from hospital 37 years ago. Since this time she has continued to be a good friend and a truly inspirational character. Despite all of the challenges she faces on a daily basis, she always remains positive, and has the most amazing sense of humour. I enjoy spending time with Sarah on every level, she provides a constant reminder of what is possible and how to make the most of all opportunities.
Sarah was born and raised in Cornwall. She still lives there today.
Sarah recently undertook an unaided zip wire challenge on behalf of Backup Trust, a charity that supports those with spinal injuries. This required her to be suspended unaccompanied in the air for the entirety of the flight which is a very risky procedure for someone that is quadriplegia and totally reliant on a ventilator. This provides a further example of her truly inspirational character.”
