“Sophie Grant-Crookston lives and works in Cornwall saving lives and keeping people safe.

In September 2006 she saved the life of a surfer in distress off Perranporth Beach and became the first ever female lifeguard to be awarded a bronze medal by the RNLI for gallantry.

What Sophie did was a selfless act and someone still has their life and is still with their loved ones because of her extremely brave decisions and strengths.

She is an inspiration and I am extremely proud of her despite not knowing her personally. I am a RNLI volunteer in the water safety team. I have been a pool lifeguard and I have saved lives. We put saving lives before ourselves.”
