“Stella Rose Benson, is an undiscovered artist, as well as a quiet champion of Penzance.
Stella worked as an animator on a number of high profile film projects including “The Snowman”, 1982, “When the Wind Blows” (1986), both based on stories by Raymond Briggs, and “Who framed Roger Rabbit” (1988) starring Bob Hoskins. More recently she authored, illustrated and self published two children’s books set in Penzance about a character called “Sparklepuss.
She is a highly talented artist, perhaps akin to Edward Hopper in that she has the foresight to see the world from the outside in. She has painted many pictures but there are a series of street portraits of great importance. She is as yet undiscovered - a travesty of justice!
I met Stella Rose Benson in the old library in Penzance, 20 years ago. She was extremely empathetic towards a better life in Cornwall. The following years are proof of her dedication to the specialness of Penzance.
Stella, went to Rosewarne Duchy college to study horticulture, 20 years ago, and has all the strength of understanding and feelings, to be a quiet activist, on behalf of the downtrodden.”
