Suggested by Stephen Beer

Stephen writes,
“Sue has previously been the Mayor of Saltash, but has been a key mover in the Saltash/South East Cornwall area for over 30years. In the late 1990s she set up the Sue Hooper Performing Arts Foundation to help young people further their careers in the arts.

I’m 62, have lived in the Saltash area most of my life, and Sue, now 80, has been an ever present face in the local area. She is inspirational and very humble.”

From the Sue Hooper Performing Arts Foundation website:
“Sue, who has been associated with performing arts since childhood, set up her Foundation in the late 1990s. In her own capacity as a performer she entered into competitive Music, Speech and Drama Festivals and was an active member of local Amateur Dramatic Societies, and taught Speech and Drama privately.

Young beneficiaries of the foundation have gone on to appear in the Royal Albert Hall, National Youth Orchestra, National Ballet, National Theatre School, Covent Garden, Wayne Sleep School Of Ballet, and West End Musicals. They have attended top Musical Colleges, Universities and Conservatoires and have won top marks in local and County Music Festivals.

Sue is Co-Founder of the Saltash Music Speech and Drama Festival. She received an MBE in 2004 in recognition of her community work and fund raising for so many worthy causes over the past 52 years.”
