Karen says, “Born and bred in Cornwall, Sue Penna is a trained clinician with years of professional experience who has developed life changing, psycho-educational, trauma informed programmes for families affected by domestic abuse. Her passion for trauma recovery has resulted in her becoming a trusted source for delivering training in the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences. This in turn led to her writing more programmes for adults and young people to help professionals understand and support those affected by childhood trauma.
I first met Sue when we both worked in Cornwall’s Domestic Abuse Sector: Sue was the County’s Domestic Abuse Co-ordinator and I was working in one of the refuges. Sue’s passion and empathy for those affected by domestic abuse has always been admirable with her not only championing the victims but also looking at how we can change patterns of behaviour in abusers. I was honoured to have co-delivered Sue’s very first Recovery Toolkit programme to the women that I worked with at the time.
Sue’s recovery programmes have helped thousands of women across the UK and many men and children. She set up Rock Pool Life as a CIC in 2018 to support organisations that want to develop their understanding of trauma and aid recovery for people affected by it. During the pandemic she was quick to adapt all the programmes to an online format. Sue is a trustee of West Cornwall Women’s Aid.”
